The Planning and Development Department is seeking a Senior Planner with an urban design focus for the Comprehensive Planning Section. The selected candidate must have experience managing complex planning projects, including the design or implementation of pedestrian- and/or transit-oriented development plans or projects, and have the ability to effectively convey urban design and planning concepts to a wide audience; analyze and interpret statistical and graphic planning information; prepare and present professional presentations; and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

This position is responsible for performing advanced urban design and planning assignments and managing complex planning projects related to comprehensive, neighborhood, and TOD or form-based code planning to include integrating land use, environmental, and transportation planning; targeted capital projects such as multimodal streetscape improvements; staffing City Boards and Commissions as needed; gathering, analyzing and reporting on pertinent social, economic and physical data relevant to planning activities; providing staff assistance to management on department and planning policy issues; representing the department at meetings with other departments, outside agencies, organizations, and community groups; creating and giving presentations; preparing and evaluating plans and written reports with recommendations; preparing professional graphic exhibits depicting urban design projects and concepts; and participating in the development of the divisions annual work program and budget preparation.

Skills / Requirements

A Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Urban Planning or Design, Public Administration, Urban Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related field PLUS three (3) years of experience in planning with an emphasis in Urban Design required.

OR

A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Urban Planning or Design, Public Administration, Urban Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related field PLUS five (5) years of experience in planning required.

Possession of an appropriate, valid Texas drivers license required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Additionally, supervisory and GIS experience preferred. AICP, CNU-A, or equivalent professional accreditation is a plus.
MISC. REQUIREMENTS:This position is required to travel to various planning sites within the city.
