TEMPORARY PART-TIME POSITIONS WITH NO BENEFITS
To assist the Mobile Recreation Team Leader in supervising children and implementing planned activities in a highly diversified Summer Day Camp Program, in an outdoor setting, for youth ages 5 to 14. The Mobile Recreation Damp Camp program consists of working outdoors until lunch and moving into the schools during the afternoons. Applicants must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with parents, children and other staff members. Must attend staff orientation provided by the City.
Duties include, but not limited to: Develop and implement lesson plans meeting educational, cultural, and recreational needs; Coordinate indoor and outdoor activities; Plan and implement arts and crafts activities; Maintain cleanliness and order of the facilities; Maintain discipline of campers consistent with department policy; Maintain a high level of safety indoors and outdoors; Give primary attention to the children (never leave participants unattended); Assist in lunch and snack distribution, serving and clean up, following the Summer Lunch Program guidelines; Supervise field trips; Assist with swimming trips in which Mobile Recreation Leaders are required to get in the water and must be comfortable in and around water. Issue and collect recreation equipment and games; Follow weekly lessons plans and submit attendance records, incident reports, schedules, etc. daily as needed; Selected applicants must commit to work entire Mobile Recreation Damp Camp Program June 11- July 27. Mandatory orientation is required one week prior to camp. Be thoroughly familiar with all Camp policies including the Standards of Care; Assist regular staff as needed; other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED required PLUS six (6) months (equivalent to 1040 hours) training and/or working experience with children leading activities in a recreational and educational environment required. Possess a working knowledge of a wide variety of indoor/outdoor activities, initiative games, and arts & crafts (motivational, non-competitive games). College is preferred, but not mandatory. First Aid and CPR certifications are required (training is provided for those that do not have certifications).
MISC. REQUIREMENTS:WORKING CONDITIONS:
Inside and outside recreational environment; working closely with others; exposure to noise, solvents, chlorine and toxic chemicals related to custodial and maintenance responsibilities.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time; lifting or carrying light to moderate objects; pushing and pulling; operating custodial and maintenance equipment; adequate speech, hearing, and eyesight required.
Conditions of Employment: Persons selected for employment into any position must pass a drug test. Some positions may require passing an alcohol test. Previous employment and any additional experience will be subject to verification prior to employment processing. A driver's license and driving record check will be conducted if driving is a job requirement. A post offer employment medical examination may be conducted prior to job placement. You will be paid by direct deposit or pay card only.
