Direct, manage, supervise and coordinate the activities and operations of the accounting functions, which primarily includes general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets, and grant accounting activities and includes maintaining and enhancing the internal control systems and procedures of the financial functions within the City, in a manner that promotes high-quality work, timely publication of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and other financial reports, proper professional development and provides highly responsible and complex financial support.

The ideal candidate will have strong Governmental Accounting experience.

Skills / Requirements

Bachelors degree in Accounting PLUS six (6) years advanced knowledge required of:

Principles and practice of governmental accounting and financial reporting

Methods and procedures for effective internal controls framework

Single Audit Act of 1984 as it pertains to Federal and State grant programs

Principles and practices of local government finance administration

Principles and practices for budget preparation

Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations

Principles of personnel management and supervision

Principles and functions of Accounts Payable

Principles and practices of Payroll

Practices of mainframe and/or ERP systems, and Microsoft products

AND two (2) years of administrative or supervisory responsibility required.

Four (4) years of administrative or supervisory experience is preferred.

Masters in Accounting and/or Certified Public Accountant preferred.
